Presentation guidelines

All presenters will be requested to upload their abstracts by March 31, 2021. The abstract should be around 250 words.

Six research postgraduate students with outstanding abstracts will be invited to give oral presentations. All other selected participants will give poster presentations.

The results will be announced through email by April 15, 2021.

Poster presentations

Poster presenters will be requested to upload their e-poster file by April 30, 2021. Late uploads will not be accepted. Presenters with no uploads by the cut-off date will be removed from the competition.

E-poster submission instructions will be emailed to presenters upon registration. All e-posters will be online by May 30, 2021.

Poster presenters are requested to give a 90-second presentation on Zoom on the day of Symposium; and the poster presentation will be broadcast through YouTube Live.

There will be a 2 minute Q & A session after the presentation. Absence from the poster presentation session will result in mark deduction.

Adjudicators will grade the presentation and poster using the scheme provided, and discuss their ranking of the presenters and select six best poster presenters.

Best poster presenters will be awarded a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of $1,000.

Awardees will be announced at the closing session of the symposium and they will be contacted via email by the end of June 2021.

Guidelines:
  1. Design an attractive e-poster to: (a) provide a brief overview of your work focusing on the objectives, hypothesis, academic progress and scientific merits of your project; and (b) initiate discussion and questions. Only cover the key points of your work.

  2. Your e-poster must adhere to the following specifications:

    • File format: pptx only

    • Size in pixel: 1080 (w) x 1536 (h) – portrait orientation

    • Size in cm: 38.1 (w) x 54.2 (h) – portrait orientation

    • Font size: ≥12

  3. The poster should be structured into Abstract, Introduction, Methods and Results, Conclusion and/or Discussion (and References and Acknowledgments if needed).

  4. Include text, diagram, figures and images only; do not add videos to your e-poster.

  5. Contrasting colour for the background and the words are recommended for easy reading.

  6. Make your e-poster as self-explanatory as possible.

  7. Poster presenters are required to present in the YouTube live on the day of Symposium.

  8. Questions will be asked after presentation. Absence from the Q&A session will result in automatic disqualification..

Intellectual Property Issues:

  1. Your poster will only be posted on the symposium website before and during the symposium. The posters will then be removed from the website within one week after the symposium.

  2. Your abstract will be posted on the symposium website before the symposium. After the symposium, the abstract will remain publicly available and will be posted on the symposium website.

  3. The YouTube Live sessions can be reviewed within one week after the Symposium.

  4. Links to the YouTube Livestream can only be accessed by attendees of the Symposium.

  5. Photo-taking and filming are not allowed for poster and oral presentations.

Oral presentations

Guidelines:
  1. 20 min each (15 min presentation + 5 min Q&A)

  2. Conducted via Zoom

  3. Adjudicators will independently grade the presentation using the scheme provided.

  4. Adjudicators will discuss their ranking of the presenters and select three best oral presenters.

  5. Best poster presenters will be awarded a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of $2,000.

  6. Awardees will be announced at the closing session of the symposium and they will be contacted via email by the end of June 2021.
